First car

Posted by Jack........

My first car was a 41 Chevy.......I worked all summer and earned $50 to buy it.
I really impressed Sandra with that car when we went on dates. The front end
of the car would bounce down the street (no shocks). The gear shift broke off and
I replaced it with the end of a broom stick.

......and Jack just couldn't understand why I always wanted to take his dad's car on
our dates.

Nothing says "Hot Stuff on Board" like a fifty dollar car. No wonder Sandra was so smitten.

I seem to remember seeing that car parked in the back yard the whole time we lived in Spur ... I can’t' ever recall seeing it actually running … I do remember dad talking something about a rod being thrown through the engine… I walked all around that car looking for the hole in the engine and the missing rod … never did find it.

It did run at least once....
We were making the drag (riding up and down main street, for the young ones in the family) and it seemed to me like everyone was looking at us because the car just would not stop bouncing once it got started.
Sandra, even though you never found the hole in the engine do you remember the broom stick gear shift?
But Jack did REALLY LIKE that car.

Lee said he thought Jack had the very first low rider(car)that bounced up and down a perfectly level street.
All guys really like their first car, even if it was a pile of junk. That first symblol of independence is a lasting one.
Lee often can't remember a persons name, but he knows what make and model car they drove up in.
